History of the Church

There was a Spiritualist Church in Temple Street Wolverhampton in the 1920’s, the fore runner of the present Church, but there is uncertainty as to who ran that church.

Mr & Mrs George acquired a plot of land at the top of Drummond Street, to the rear of the present church and a large wooden hut was erected on it, heated only by a coal burning stove, which had to be lit before each service.

This became known as Drummond Street Spiritualist Church.

The Church joined the Spiritualists National Union in approximately 1930.

The Committee eventually required a larger Church as the membership had grown. To raise funds for this, church chairs were sold with a brass plaque on the back, in memory of a loved one, for £50.00 each. 100 chairs were sold raising £5000.00.

The new Church was built of brick construction with a pitched roof as stands today and Mrs George paid for and donated the beautiful rostrum at the front of the Church.

As funds were limited, the Social Room and the Kitchen were added, but were of a wooden construction.

Some years later an entrance was acquired between the 2 Bill Posting Boards at the front of the Church, giving direct vehicular and pedestrian access to the main Waterloo Road at the front of the Church. This became the main entrance to the Church and the entrance via Drummond Street was eventually closed.

This entrance is opposite The Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Ground, directly opposite the current Ticket Office.
